Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of Michigan Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its content, or submitting a search means the visitor agrees to the terms below. Anyone who does not accept them must stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. Michigan Criminal History is privately owned and has no connection to a federal, state, or local government body. The website and its advertising partners do not offer services for credit decisions, employment screening, insurance underwriting, tenant screening, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). This is a Michigan criminal-record reference resource, not a private investigation firm or consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

Michigan Criminal History is a private reference site without ties to a government office. It neither stores official criminal records nor retrieves records, performs official checks, or files documents for a visitor.

The website identifies Michigan record custodians, including Michigan State Police CJIC, the Michigan Department of Corrections, the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry, state courts, and local agencies in Michigan's 83 counties. It may also connect visitors to third-party research tools. Michigan FOIA, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231-15.246, governs eligible requests to Michigan public bodies, while Act 289, MCL 28.241a-28.247, governs state criminal-history collection and dissemination.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Visitors agree not to:

  • Use automated bots or scrapers against the website
  • Stalk, harass, or threaten a person with information found here
  • Violate a federal, Michigan, or local law while using the website
  • Rely on site content for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized access to the website or its systems
  • Interfere with site performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No one may use information from Michigan Criminal History or a linked tool to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or discriminate against another person. Such conduct may also be criminal. Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry data requires particular care. Michigan law restricts dissemination and misuse, and the registry warns against threats, intimidation, harassment, or criminal acts. Registry information supports lawful public-safety awareness. It is not permission for vigilantism, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Michigan Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and does not create credit reports, background checks, or consumer reports. Its advertising partners do not provide services through this website for applicant screening, rental review, insurance pricing, or credit evaluation. Information from this site or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Set an insurance premium or assess creditworthiness
  • Screen a renter or housing applicant
  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other FCRA-regulated purpose

When a lawful purpose requires such a report, use an appropriate official Michigan State Police process or a consumer reporting company that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Website content is not legal advice. General descriptions of Michigan criminal records cannot determine how a charge, warrant, conviction, or set-aside rule applies to a particular person. Consult a lawyer licensed in Michigan for that advice.

6. No Warranties

All website content is supplied "as is." Michigan Criminal History does not promise that:

  • A partner search result will be complete or correct
  • The website will always be available without interruption
  • Every page will be free from errors, defects, or security weaknesses
  • Information will always be accurate, complete, and current

Michigan records can change when charges are filed or dismissed and when records are restricted or set aside. Delays and gaps can occur. Nothing published here is an official statement from Michigan State Police, a court, a sheriff, or another government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

The website links to Michigan agencies, court portals, county sheriffs and clerks, legal-aid organizations, and outside search providers. Following a link moves the visitor to a service Michigan Criminal History does not control. The site is not responsible for an outside service's content, availability, charges, or data practices. Review its terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Michigan Criminal History or its content partners. No one may copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative work from that material without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Michigan Criminal History is not liable for damages arising from use of the website, including reliance on information found here or through a linked service.

10. Indemnification

A visitor agrees to indemnify and hold Michigan Criminal History harmless from claims, actions, or demands caused by that visitor's site use or violation of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

Michigan law governs these terms. Any dispute related to use of Michigan Criminal History must be brought in a court located within the State of Michigan.

12. Changes to These Terms

Michigan Criminal History may revise these terms at any time. A revision becomes effective when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access to the website may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be modified only to the extent required to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be directed through the Contact page.
